A number of shops and restaurants will open at Stockholm Arlanda this autumn as the first stage of the Market Place is completed. One of the new additions is Gateau, a craft bakery with a French twist that will offer passengers a premium-quality classic Swedish fika, or coffee and pastry.
Over the summer, a number of new outlets have opened at Stockholm Arlanda Airport. And more will be added before the new Marketplace opens its doors in September.
The strong growth in summer air travel continued in July. More than 3.2 million passengers flew via Swedavia’s ten airports during the month, an increase of more than 14 per cent compared to July last year. As a result, for the third straight month more than three million passengers flew via Swedavia’s airports, and July is also the single strongest month for travel since October 2019.
Swedavia’s second quarter was dominated by the continued recovery in air travel, and revenue of more than 1.5 billion Swedish kronor for the period was the single highest quarterly figure since the start of the pandemic. To create a better passenger experience, Swedavia is enhancing its efforts to coordinate the passenger assistance it provides to persons with reduced mobility (PRM) through its PRM service. Using digital solutions, assistance services at Stockholm Arlanda Airport and Göteborg Landvetter Airport can be better coordinated and provided faster.
Swedavia has decided to make Malmö Airport the test arena for Heart Aerospace’s ES-30 electric aircraft. The full-scale aircraft model will be tested and used to demonstrate taxiing and charging at the airport. Also taking part in the test activities alongside Swedavia are Heart Aerospace, the airlines BRA and SAS, and the Swedish battery developer Northvolt.
The recovery in air travel continues, and with nearly 3.2 million passengers June is the month that had the most passengers since the start of the pandemic. The trend of strong growth in demand for international travel continues, especially at Stockholm Arlanda. During the month, an increase in domestic travel was also noted.
This summer, the range of shops at Göteborg Landvetter Airport will be revitalised. Two major additions are a new electronics store and a brand-new souvenir shop.
Eurowings continues to expand at Stockholm Arlanda Airport by launching a new direct route to Beirut. This will further establish the German value carrier’s presence at Stockholm Arlanda and meet the increased demand for a direct route to the capital of Lebanon, as well as add to the considerable variety of destinations already operated by Eurowings from the airport.
There will be liquorice for all tastes at Stockholm Arlanda Airport when the Swedish retailer Lakritsroten opens in the new Marketplace in December.
The recovery in aviation continued in May, and summer travel is now picking up speed. In May, for the first time since the start of the Covid pandemic, Swedavia’s airports had more than 3 million passengers in a single month. That is an increase of 14 per cent compared to May last year and corresponds to 83 per cent of the pre-pandemic level.
The BLACk IRIS project, led by Swedavia and financed by the Swedish Traffic Authority, has been named one of Sweden's top innovation projects by the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences, IVA. The project will simplify the development towards more efficient flights to the airports, so-called curved flights, which contributes to a reduced climate impact.
