New test center for Covid-19 PCR and antibody tests at Arlanda

As the world now slowly opens up and we can soon travel again, there is strong demand from passengers and airlines for the possibility to get PCR and antibody tests and have travel certificates issued at the airport.

Pursuant to the Swedish Act on Public Procurement, Swedavia has signed an agreement with ExpressCare to set up a test center at Stockholm Arlanda Airport.

ExpressCare performs PCR and antibody tests around the clock every day of the week and has a laboratory in the airport-based test center for analyses. Analysis of the tests is carried out by Life Genomics, an ISO 15189-accredited laboratory. A travel certificate signed by a specialist doctor is issued for negative test results.

- It is very positive that we can now offer a totally necessary service that our passengers and airlines are asking for. The tests are important for the restart of travel, especially now before the digital health pass is launched,” says Charlotte Ljunggren, Director of Market and Commercial Development at Swedavia.

Different regulations apply in different countries regarding how many hours before departure the test needs to be taken and whether a specific format is required for the travel certificate. Passengers are responsible for checking with their airline to see what applies for their own flight before taking a test. The response time is 2-4 hours for a PCR test and 30-60 minutes for an antibody test.

- We are incredibly pleased and proud about the opportunity to be able to expand our operations and be an important part of Stockholm Arlanda Airport, says Isak Rikardsson, CEO of ExpressCare.

ExpressCare’s test center will open on June 21, in SkyCity at Arlanda.

Domestic traffic fared somewhat better than international traffic, but demand for flights continued to be strongly affected by the pandemic. Despite the uncertain situation, there are now rays of hope and early signs of a recovery.
