Swedish winner Jenny checking in today to Stockholm Arlanda’s unique ramp tower apartment

Thousands of travellers from nine European countries took part in a competition to win a one-night stay in Stockholm Arlanda Airports renowned ramp tower, which together with HomeAway has been converted into an unique apartment with the help of the designer and artist Cilla Ramnek. Today the Swedish winner Jenny will check in, bringing four generations of her family with her. Her grandfather, who is 91 years old and a retired pilot, is also visiting the tower.
 

In June this year, Swedavia – in partnership with HomeAway – announced that Stockholm Arlanda’s ramp tower would be turned into an apartment. With help from the designer and artist Cilla Ramnek, the ramp tower was converted into a unique apartment featuring its own kitchen and panoramic views of the airport’s take-off and landing runways. News about these spectacular accommodations spread widely, with media such as CNN, NBC, The Daily Telegraph, Elle, Condé Nast and Lonely Planet providing international coverage.

Through the competition – #HomeAwayArlanda – five lucky winners from Sweden and selected European countries were chosen as the only guests to stay a night in the ramp tower. The contest was held in June and July and attracted great interest, with thousands of people from nine European countries competing for the chance to spend a night in the tower followed by an additional three nights in a HomeAway holiday rental. The winner could choose to stay in either Stockholm, Copenhagen, Helsinki or Oslo to be able to experience one of the cosmopolitan cities the region has to offer.

Today, it’s time for the Swedish winner Jenny from Stockholm, to check into the tower, where she will spend the night with her family. Also paying the tower a visit is Jenny’s 91-year-old grandfather, who – quite fittingly – is a retired pilot for SAS.

“It’s great for the entire family that I have a chance to bring my grandfather along and make four generations happy with his exciting aviation stories so that they’ll be preserved for the future. This is an experience that we’ll remember for a long time,” said the winner, Jenny.

As guests in the apartment, Jenny and her family will have a 24-hour experience including the best that Stockholm Arlanda has to offer. VIP service from the moment they arrive, a visit to the air traffic control tower 80 metres up in the air and an exciting behind-the-scenes tour of the airport are just a few of the things awaiting them. Culinary experiences are also on the agenda, including breakfast served in the tower from RC Chocolat, which is run by Ronny Latva, a member of the Swedish national pastry team, and dinner at Pontus in the Air, which is owned by chef Pontus Frithiof.

In addition to their overnight stay in the ramp tower, Jenny and her family will spend three nights in Copenhagen in a HomeAway vacation rental.
