In February, more than 2 million passengers flew to or from Swedavia’s ten airports. That is an increase of nearly 80 per cent compared to February last year and corresponds to 75 per cent of the pre-pandemic volume in 2019. Demand for flights during the winter school break strengthened, and Swedavia now continues to intensify its preparations to handle more passengers this summer.
During January, the number of passengers at Swedavia’s airports increased more than 90 per cent compared to January 2022 to 2.1 million. Travel is thus back to 75 per cent of pre-pandemic levels in 2019. Swedavia, together with its partners, is mobilising resources even now for an intensive summer travel period.
2021 was the second straight year that air travel was heavily impacted by Covid. Despite the rebound during the autumn, air travel remained at levels comparable to those seen in the early 1980s. Since the start of the pandemic, air travel at Swedavia’s airports has now fallen by 58 million passengers.
In November, more than 1.7 million passengers flew via Swedavia’s ten airports. As a result, for the first time since the start of the pandemic, nearly 60 per cent of passenger volume returned in a single month. However, the pandemic situation, the Omicron variant and new restrictions are creating renew uncertainty about developments in the near term.
Air travel to and from Swedavia’s airports during the ninth month of the year showed a continued increase. In September 2017, 3,848,000 passengers flew to or from Swedavia’s ten airports, which is a five per cent increase compared to September 2016.
