Press release -
Pride flag on top at Stockholm Arlanda Airport
For the eighth straight year, Swedavia is taking part in Stockholm Pride. Swedavia works proactively and with great focus every day of the year for an inclusive and prejudice-free company. Swedavia’s explicit approach is to ensure that employees, customers and passengers all feel good and can be themselves at Swedavia. Today the rainbow flag was hoisted at Stockholm Arlanda Airport to signal the start of the Pride Festival in Stockholm.
This morning the rainbow flag was raised at Stockholm Arlanda Airport by airport director Peder Grunditz together with Britta Davidsohn, chair of Stockholm Pride, to signal the start of the Pride Festival. Since 2011, Swedavia has taken part in Pride Festivals across Sweden in order to show its support for all people’s equal rights and value. As of this year, Swedavia is also a bronze partner with Stockholm Pride.
“For the people who work at Swedavia, it is a given that we help promote diversity and inclusion and the work that Stockholm Pride represents. Swedavia needs to attract talent that reflects society and
is convinced that differences enrich us and lead to better operations,” says Peder Grunditz, airport director at Stockholm Arlanda Airport.
“We at Stockholm Pride are really pleased that Swedavia has decided to become a bronze partner. The hoisting of the rainbow flag is a warm welcome to our festival visitors and is a proud greeting to all passengers, with Swedavia spotlighting the fact that everyone is welcome regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity,” says Britta Davidsohn, chair of Stockholm Pride.
Stockholm Pride, which has been held since 1998, is the largest Pride Festival in the Nordic countries. It works to make LGBTQ issues more visible and create a free zone for homosexuals, bisexuals, queer people and the gender expressions found in the LGBTQ movement. This year, EuroPride is being arranged together by Stockholm Pride and West Pride, which is mainly focused on LGBTQ people in Gothenburg and the Western Götaland region.
About the flag:
The flag was created in US in the 1970s by Gilbert Baker, with the encouragement of Harvey Milk. Since it was designed, Baker’s flag has come to be generally associated with LGBTQ rights and has also become a symbol for the Pride movement in general.
