Swedavia's passenger statistics for January 2019

In January, almost 2,830,000 passengers flew to or from Swedavia’s ten airports, a decrease of nearly three per cent compared to the same month in 2018. At several of the regional airports, international travel increased while domestic travel decreased during the month.

The number of international passengers at Swedavia’s airports in January was more than 1,866,000, a two per cent decrease compared to the same period in 2018. The number of domestic passengers decreased four per cent in January to just over 963,000.

At Stockholm Arlanda Airport, Swedavia’s largest airport, which accounts for the bulk of the Group’s domestic and international traffic, international travel decreased two per cent to almost 1,414,000 passengers, while the number of domestic passengers decreased three per cent to 385,000.

At Göteborg Landvetter Airport, international passenger volume was at the same level as in January 2018, 355 000, whereas domestic travel decreased six per cent to more than 96,000 passengers. 

At several of the regional airports, international travel increased in January while domestic travel decreased. International travel increased most at Kiruna Airport and Åre Östersund Airport, while the largest decrease in domestic travel during the month was at Malmö Airport. At Luleå Airport, domestic travel increased marginally during this period.

New direct route between Gothenburg and the French city of Lyon

Beginning March 4, 2019, travellers in western Sweden will be able to fly non-stop between Göteborg Landvetter Airport and Lyon in southeastern France. The Swedish carrier BRA will offer departures on Mondays and Thursdays in both directions, with a flying time of 2 hours and 30 minutes. BRA will also give passengers the option of choosing bio jet fuel when they book their flight.

Anna Strömwall new Airport Director at Göteborg Landvetter Airport

Swedavia has appointed Anna Strömwall as the new Airport Director of Göteborg Landvetter Airport and as a new member of Swedavia’s Group management team. Once confirmed by the Swedish Transport Agency, she will assume the position in February.

Passenger statistics for December and full-year 2018

More than 42 million passengers flew to or from one of Swedavia’s ten airports in 2018, representing a minor increase in passenger numbers compared to 2017. The number of international passengers increased with nearly 2 per cent, while the number of domestic passengers decreased with nearly 3 per cent. For December passenger traffic decreased nearly 2 per cent compared the same period last year.

Check in your baggage in Åre during the Alpine World Ski Championships

Now all visitors to the World Ski Championships will be able to check in their baggage when they are still in Åre the day before their return flight. Next to Holiday Club, a satellite airport, Check-in Åre, is being set up, where passengers can drop off their baggage, which is then transported to Åre Östersund Airport.

Swedavia welcomes Swedish proposal for reduction quota scheme for aviation

Today special investigator Maria Wetterstrand submitted a report on policy instruments to promote the use of bio fuel in aviation to Swedish Minister for Environment and Climate Isabella Lövin. Swedavia takes a positive view of the report’s main proposal for a reduction quota scheme promoting the use of bio fuel for air transport.
