Swedavia’s traffic statistics for October 2019

In October, 3,531,000 passengers flew via Swedavia’s ten airports, which is a decrease of almost 5 per cent compared to the same month last year. This month, a continued weaker trend for domestic travel was noted, while international traffic decreased to a lesser extent and scheduled European traffic was basically unchanged compared to October last year.

The total number of international passengers at Swedavia’s airports was 2,378,000 in October, which is a decrease of almost 2 per cent compared to the same month last year. The total number of domestic passengers was 1,153,000 passengers, a decrease of 10 per cent.

Stockholm Arlanda Airport, Sweden’s largest airport, had a total of 2,242,000 passengers in October, which is a decrease of 4 per cent compared to the same month last year. The number of international passengers was 1,781,000, which is a decrease of 3 per cent, while the number of domestic passengers was 461,000, a decrease of 8 per cent.

Göteborg Landvetter Airport had a total of 588,000 passengers in October, which is a decrease of 3 per cent compared to the same month last year. The number of international passengers was475,000, an increase of 2 per cent compared to October last year. Göteborg Landvetter is the airport that continues to show the greatest growth in international travel, which accounts for the bulk of traffic at the airport. Domestic travel decreased 19 per cent to 113,000 in October.

At Bromma Stockholm Airport, a total of 216,000 passengers flew in October, which is a decrease of 11 per cent compared to October last year. However, international travel increased 20 per cent, while domestic travel decreased 15 per cent.

In line with the traffic trend so far this year, Swedavia’s regional airports showed local differences in the travel pattern in October as well. The total number of passengers at these airports was 485,000, which is a decrease of 7 per cent. Luleå and Kiruna had the lowest decreased in domestic air traffic during October, followed by Visby and Åre Östersund.

For many years, Swedavia has carried out ambitious sustainability work. All ten of its airports shall have zero emissions of fossil carbon dioxide from their own operations by 2020. Swedavia also works actively to promote the industry’s transition to bio fuel and has the goal that five per cent of all fuel used to refuel aircraft at Swedish airports shall be fossil-free by 2025.Since 2016, Swedavia buys bio jet fuel equivalent to the amount the company uses on flights for business purposes, about 450 tonnes of fuel a year.

Four new routes launched at Göteborg Landvetter

International air traffic at Göteborg Landvetter Airport continues to grow. In the past few days, four new European direct routes were launched. Along with the new services, another four new direct routes were announced in the past month. New direct route to Hamburg from Göteborg Landvetter Airport

Eurowings is expanding at Göteborg Landvetter Airport and starting up a new direct route to Germany’s second largest city, Hamburg. The German low cost carrier will thus increase its range of flights on offer from Gothenburg with the addition of another destination, along with its current route to Düsseldorf.

Three new direct routes from Stockholm Arlanda with Norwegian

Norwegian is expanding at Stockholm Arlanda Airport and will launch three new direct routes to eastern European countries during the spring of 2020. The new destinations are Palanga (Lithuania), Gdansk (Poland) and Tivat (Montenegro).
