Arlanda’s new veranda is taking shape

Preparations for the new Marketplace at Stockholm Arlanda Airport are in full swing. An impressive construction made of laminated timber forms the framework of an extension with a Nordic feel, which will be one of the new features to characterise the airport and house many of the approximately 30 new food concepts in the new Marketplace.

“We are now half-way through with the extension of this part of the Marketplace, and it feels great to see how what was once seen in drawings and plans is now becoming a reality. The light wooden beams are not only beautiful – natural materials like laminated timber have a much lower environmental impact,” says Jonas Missaoui, who is project manager for the veranda extension at Swedavia.

The new Marketplace now taking shape at Arlanda will offer a total of 12,000 square metres of space with shopping, food and other services in order to make the airport even more attractive and to meet passengers’ various needs and requests. The refurbishments under way also include a brand-new, significantly modernised security checkpoint in Terminal 5.

The new venues at Arlanda and in Terminal 5 will start opening gradually. The veranda extension is expected to be completed towards the end of the year.

“Visitors to this part of Terminal 5 will find themselves truly at the centre of things, with the vibrant pulse of the Marketplace and front row seats overlooking the heart of the airport and its take-off and landing runways,” concludes Jonas Missaoui.
