Ryanair investing further at Göteborg Landvetter with new direct route to Bosnia

The Irish low-cost carrier Ryanair is developing its offering of destinations from Göteborg Landvetter Airport and will launch a new direct route to Banja Luka, the second largest city in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Ryanair returned to Göteborg Landvetter after suspending operations during the Covid-19 pandemic on July 1 and to date has resumed service to 15 destinations. On October 25, the airline will launch a brand-new direct route to Banja Luka, the second largest city in Bosnia and Herzegovina after the country’s capital, Sarajevo.

Western Sweden has a large share of residents with roots in the Balkan region and Bosnia in particular. When the world opens up, people will long to meet friends and family.

An ever-growing number of airlines are now back operating at Swedavia’s ten airports, and traffic has gradually increased, as countries ease their travel restrictions. During the autumn, more airlines are expected to resume service.

“Far fewer flights compared to before the pandemic can be expected for a while going forward, but we are cautiously looking forward to seeing even more air traffic and passengers return to our airports once the situation in the world has stabilised,” Elizabeth Axtelius continues. “Health and safety is our top priority. In addition to the Public Health Agency of Sweden’s recommendations, we comply with international regulations and have introduced requirements for face coverings and other extensive infection control measures to create a safe environment both for passengers and employees at all of our airports.”

Service for the new route will launch on October 25 as part of the airline’s Winter 2020-programme, and Ryanair will fly the Göteborg Landvetter (GOT) – Banja Luka (BNX) route twice weekly with a Boeing 737–800. It is the only airline to serve this route.

For many years, Swedavia has carried out ambitious sustainability work. All ten of its airports shall have zero emissions of fossil carbon dioxide from their own operations by the end of 2020. Swedavia also works actively to promote the industry’s transition to sustainable aviation fuel and has the goal that five per cent of all fuel used to refuel aircraft at Swedish airports shall be fossil-free by 2025.
