Swedavia appoints Nils Funke as new Airport Director at Malmö Airport

In connection with Malmö Airport's current Airport Director Karin Öhrström moving on to the position of Director of Regional Airports at Swedavia, Nils Funke will take over as her replacement starting on April 1, 2024

Nils Funke currently works as Operations Manager at Malmö Airport. He has significant leadership experience from previous assignments – including at Besikta Bilprovning and EON.

"I am very pleased to welcome Nils to a new and exciting position at Malmö Airport and at Swedavia. Nils has a broad and relevant experience and he is well acquainted with the operations in Malmö. Through his commitment and appreciated leadership, he will definitely contribute to the continued development of both Malmö Airports and Swedavia in his new role," says Susanne Norman, incoming Director of Operational Operations at International Airports.

Malmö Airport to invest in electric aviation – will be test arena for Heart Aerospace’s electric aircraft

Swedavia has decided to make Malmö Airport the test arena for Heart Aerospace’s ES-30 electric aircraft. The full-scale aircraft model will be tested and used to demonstrate taxiing and charging at the airport. Also taking part in the test activities alongside Swedavia are Heart Aerospace, the airlines BRA and SAS, and the Swedish battery developer Northvolt.

Swedavia’s traffic statistics for November 2023

In November, Swedavia's airports had nearly 2.4 million passengers, which is a 1 per cent increase compared to November last year. International travel, mainly at Stockholm Arlanda but also at Göteborg Landvetter, continued to drive the trend, but demand weakened somewhat. The slowdown in domestic travel continued and was around 65 per cent of domestic travel compared to before the pandemic.

Focus on regional airports when TUI launch summer program for 2024

After a summer with strong booking levels in almost the entire country, TUI is investing heavily in charter trips from regional airports and will launch new and returning routes from Malmö Airport, Umeå Airport, Luleå Airport and Visby Airport ahead of the coming season. In total 9 charter destinations will be operated from Swedavias airports adding up to a little over 160 departures.

Malmö Airport turns 50 – Swedavia to invest further in enhanced domestic and international connectivity in southern Sweden

On Thursday, December 1, Malmö Airport ­– Sweden’s third largest airport and the international airport for southern Sweden – turns 50. The airport has an important role in Swedish connectivity, and since it opened in 1972 more than 60 million passengers have flown to or from there.

Major recruitment initiative at Arlanda and Landvetter – several hundred vacancies anticipated in the near future

After a successful recruitment effort last year at Stockholm Arlanda, Swedavia is continuing to invest heavily in recruitment – this year with two open recruitment days at both Stockholm Arlanda and Landvetter, Sweden's two largest airports. The recruitment days are being held in collaboration with a large number of companies at the airports.

Swedavia signs cooperation agreement with Airbus, Avinor, SAS and Vattenfall to promote the development of hydrogen-powered aviation in Sweden and Norway

Swedavia, Airbus, Avinor, SAS and Vattenfall have signed a Memorandum of understanding (MoU) to work together to develop infrastructure for hydrogen aviation at airports in Sweden and Norway. The goal of the collaboration is to, through a preliminary study on hydrogen, develop a framework and review the conditions for a possible rollout of hydrogen-powered aviation in both countries.

Swedavia’s traffic statistics for December and the full-year 2023

The recovery in air travel continued in 2023 and was mainly driven by increased international travel and an expanded range of routes and destinations at Stockholm Arlanda Airport. During the year, more than 32 million passengers flew through Swedavia's airports, which represents an increase of 17 percent compared to last year and about 80 percent of pre-pandemic levels.
