Press release -
Swedavia’s traffic statistics for November 2023
"Overall, air travel increased slightly in November, but the weaker economy is now expected to have an impact on passenger figures. International travel, primarily at Stockholm Arlanda and Göteborg Landvetter, increased approximately 5 per cent compared to the corresponding month last year, which was a slightly weaker development compared to previous months. At the same time, domestic travel declined, which is worrying and risks if this trend continues to lead to a reduced range of destinations, higher ticket prices and overall, poorer accessibility both within Sweden and to the rest of the world," says Jonas Abrahamsson, Swedavia's president and CEO.
Of the 2.4 million passengers during the month, 1.7 million were international passengers, an increase of 5 per cent compared to November 2022, which was a weaker rate of increase compared to the increase of 8 per cent in September and October, respectively. Domestic travel decreased by 6 per cent to nearly 700,000 passengers.
Stockholm Arlanda Airport had close to 1.7 million passengers during the month, an increase of 5 per cent compared to October of last year. International travel increased 7 per cent to 1.3 million passengers, while domestic travel increased 5 per cent to just under 300,000 passengers.
Göteborg Landvetter Airport had more than 360,000 passengers in November, an increase of 3 per cent compared to November last year. International travel increased by 6 per cent to 300,000 passengers, while domestic travel decreased 10 per cent to 54,000 passengers.
Other Swedavia airports had a mixed trend in November, but the trend was predominantly negative compared to November 2022. Travel at Kiruna Airport, Ronneby Airport, Umeå Airport and Åre Östersund Airport was almost in line with travel in November last year. Malmö Airport and Bromma Stockholm Airport had a weaker development compared to other airports and travel decreased by 21 per cent and 17 per cent respectively compared to November last year. Luleå Airport continues to be the regional airport with the best traffic development in November compared to pre-pandemic levels in 2019.
